Words From Our Founder

Words From Our Founder

Every owner should have a dream when they start a brand. A dream that they work towards every single day. When I started Builder Design Co. I dreamt of changing not just the  industry, but the culture of the outdoor activities that I love to do.

First and foremost, I want these sanity restoring activities to be obtainable. I have overheard a lot of conversations about riders “not excluding” anybody. I give the people in our sports the benefit of the doubt that they are not intentionally excluding any person from riding with them. However, I think we could be doing things differently.  Just because you are ‘not excluding’ anybody, doesn’t mean you are including. The average outdoor enthusiast has to spend thousands of dollars on equipment and gear just to get started. If you’re already in it, It is way too common to find yourself shopping for one new item and being stuck with a $100+ price tag. What’s worse, is how it is even more common to lightheartedly shame someone seen wearing anything cheaper or two seasons old. We do this to justify the exorbitant amount of money we paid for our own set up. We are all guilty of getting caught up in the elitism. There are plenty of people who deserve to be a part of this rad community who just simply can’t afford the buy-in. I can’t control whether companies offer a ‘starting’ mountain bike at $3,000, but I can try to offer a quality item for a reasonable price within my own. I want to bring back the “Run What Ya Brung” mentality. Throwing dirt and riding hard isn’t pristine or glamorous, so why does your gear have to be?

Which brings me to my second dream as the owner of Builder Design Co. If you’ve gotten this far, I’m sure you’ve noticed that our apparel is sorted by activity and type of garment. We do not separate our clothes by gender. To be honest, it doesn’t matter. I don’t care what your gender is. If you’re a female, I don’t believe you need a different colorway or one less pocket. If you’re a guy, I don’t believe you need to be charged more. I care about offering gear that will perform for anyone who wants to wear it. All of our garments are technically ‘unisex’ fit. Right now, that is the best I can offer with the limited budget I have as I grow this brand. Someday, I plan to design my own fully custom pieces that can truly fit the lifestyle it was meant for. When that day comes, I plan to offer all inclusive sizes of the same garment without gender biased adjustments.

On top of all this, I hope to grow more than a brand. I hope to grow a community of strong, talented people. I want you to feel connected to each other as well as Builder Design Co. If you can leave with just one takeaway of what we are about, I hope it’s Respect. Respect each other. Respect the path you’re shredding on. Respect the hard work.

Stay Strong,

Builder Design Co.
